Thank you to everyone who came out on Thursday night to 92YTribeca to celebrate Troop Beverly Hills: The Experience. The sold out crowd of over 200 Wilderness Girls, Boys (and for the first time, Red Feathers) may have been the rowdiest in TBH:TE history.
As we mentioned at the closing of our show, this was the first screening since the passing of Troop costume designer Theadora Van Runkle. We were fortunate enough to have Oscar nominee attended our inaugural event back in October 2009. And when we asked to share some thoughts about Theadora, TBH director Jeff Kanew had this to say:
Aside from the fact that she was a talented designer and artist, Theadora was funny and hip even into her 80s. As for TBH, her contribution was the single most important element to the movie after Shelley Long’s comedic skills. I usually have a lot of control over wardrobe on my films, but in this case, I let Thea do her thing, and it went far beyond what I could have “directed” her to do, or any of us could have imagined. The producers wanted to hire one of the designers from Dynasty and would have pushed for a much more “tailored”, tasteful style. And it would have been BORING! My big contribution was to fight for Thea and support her vision.
